Northern Irish blues siblings...

There's a line, a conduit which connects the deep South with Ireland.

The Emerald Isle has always taken blues and country to its heart, producing the likes of Rory Gallagher in the process. Hell, this year has witnessed the enormous breakthrough success of The Strypes, a band who recognise what the initials of R&B actually stand for.

Southern could well be the latest in this lineage. Thom and Lucy Southern hail from Belfast, but sound for all the world like a couple of world-weary veterans from the Appalachian hills.

With their choppy, Delta style guitar playing and ol' timey inflections, Southern are set to drop their debut EP on December 9th. Zane Lowe is already on their trail, while record label Marathon (home to Jagwar Ma and more) have already snapped them up.

Temperatures are rising, so Clash thought it only right to share a live clip. 'Shout It' has become the band's calling card, a track which seems to fuse Southern's varied influences into one smouldering heap.

Watch it now.
