Girl Friend

Still extremely new – the band formed less than 12 months ago – Girl Friend seem to have arrived with their sound complex, exact, intoxicating.

Recalling that lineage of artfully British pop, the band boast influences such as Japan, Roxy Music or even Bowie. There’s an urgent, white boy sense of funk here, too, which nods towards the work of Prince.

New single ‘STOP’ is a powerful introduction. There’s the rhythmic complexity of Everything Everything married to the elegance of Wild Beasts – with more than a hint of their own personalities in here, as well.

Clash is able to premiere the video, and it’s a doozy.
