"We wanted to portray lost youth..."
Nadine Shah

Time's tide touches everything.

It's a common theme for art - at least, the standard, high brow art forms - but it less mentioned in pop music. Nadine Shah though, has no such qualms and decided to tackle the subject head on in her song 'To Be A Young Man'.

A highlight of upcoming debut album 'Love Your Dum and Mad', the song is a dense, provocative look at the effects of ageing. Director Matthew Cummins takes charge of the accompanying video, and the results are a moving, quite appropriate rendering of Nadine Shah's songcraft.

"We wanted to portray lost youth, so we have pub scenes of a young man owning a room and commanding the space juxtaposed with the old, solitary man admiring the young barmaid" she explained. "They are almost like the punters in the bar themselves, the barflies."
