Sweet Northern poetry...
High Hazels

The North of England is a curious juxtaposition of industry and artistry, blunt realism and romantic whimsy.

It's there in all great pop culture figures to spring from the North - from Morrissey to Alex Turner, John Cooper Clarke to Ian Curtis.

It's also there in High Hazels. A quartet of school friends, the group fuse a nascent sense of melodic jangle to lyrics which deal with the grit of everyday life.

The band's debut single, 'Hearts Are Breaking' is a case in point. All lilting songwriting and stark directness, it's a vision of fluorescent lights reflected in a puddle of rain water.

Out on October 7th, Clash is able to preview the official video for 'Hearts Are Breaking'. Using home video footage shot at a family party in 1985, there's a curious glamour, a certain painful melancholy which seeps through the footage.

Watch it now.
