Track Of The Day 9/9 – Codec

Is It Something

It's house, but it's not house. It's bass, but it's not bass.

There's a new sound rippling through UK dance music, one which is gently lapping at the fringes of the mainstream. Utilising the galloping snaps and snares of house music, but flushed through with the experience of British bass culture, it's a sound which is both blissful, euphoric and deep, soulful.

Codec helped push the sound a little further last year, when their Black Butter aligned debut EP soared to the top of the Juno charts. Earning huge acclaim, Codec have decided to partner up with WRHSmusic, the brand new label co-run by Unit7.

Out on September 30th, new EP 'Everyday' is a distillation of everything which makes Codec so potent. Uniting some classic 90s house flavours (one cut is even called 'No More (1998)') with bass saturation and the day-glo sound of slick pop this is a damn near irresistible introduction to the London duo.

Already gaining radio spins and support from some top DJ talent, Clash are able to premiere lead track 'Is It Something'. Shot through with memories of endless summer sun, this is the perfect antidote to an otherwise grey, dank Monday morning.

Listen to it now.
