Track Of The Day 9/12 – Harry Stone

'Original Love'

For Harry Stone, making music is a family affair. Every Thursday his father travels to London to visit him, often staying the night. He’s the perfect sounding board, with the young songwriter performing his new material – often for the very first time – to an audience of one. Supple, soulful pop music laden with electronics, Harry Stone’s bewitching artistry thrives on a very intimate sense of connection.

“My Dad stays with me in London every Thursday to make evening rehearsals for an orchestra in Stockwell,” he explains. “Every time without fail he asks to hear my new music. Usually he’ll dismantle the harmony while it’s playing, or test himself to hear the time signature, but in this case he just listened, head down, eyes closed. I could tell this song was special when that happened, it was almost like it stopped being a song and became something else.”

2022 has been kind to this rising force. Collaborating with production talent like Lil Silva, Kenny Beats, and Paul Epworth, the success of his opening releases has been complimented with a sold-out three night run at London venue the Laylow.

New single ‘Original Love’ ends a breakout year in some style, a glorious return that pushes Harry Stone’s artistry to fresh levels. The end of one chapter and the beginning of another, ‘Original Love’ attempts to find balance in difficult circumstances.

“To hear this is to hear a person so torn apart they don’t know which way is up,” Harry comments, “as that’s what was happening to me. I changed my life after recording this track. It came at a time when I was realising I had to develop a healthy relationship with myself, I had to just be alone for a long time…nobody else had the answers.”
