A vital selector, Ben Pearce has released material under numerous guises.
Recently, though, the producer has poured his efforts into supporting new talent. Launching the Purp & Soul imprint, the Manchester based artist has provided a platform for breaking artists to get their voices heard.
The latest release on the label comes from Harry Wolfman. A Purp & Soul mainstay – this is his third release on the imprint – the producer has a dextrous, versatile ability which has tackled numerous styles, genres.
Running through his material, though, is an enormous sense of charm. There's a bounce, a kick to each Harry Wolfman production, with new release 'On Tap' featuring a buoyant, effervescent energy.
Remixes come courtesy of Waifs and Strays and – in a new Clash premiere – Vessels. The Leeds group are gradually shifting towards more dancefloor-centric realms, yet aim to retain the avant garde spirit which fuelled those initial recordings.
The band's 'On Tap' re-work seems to emphasise these twin poles. The fun and bluster of the original remains, yet there's also a dark, probing spirit here.
