Track Of The Day 7/5 – The Adelines

Park The Car

At one point it was called the Big Music – Celtic bands whose openness recalled the widescreen, barren nature of the lands they were born in.

Perhaps it’s due a revival. After all, listening to the new single from Swansea four piece The Adelines is possible to trace the gentle incline of the valleys, the patient swoop of the Brecon Beacons.

Out now on Kissability, lead cut ‘Alleyways’ is heavy in sentiment but subtle in suggestion. All honeyed tones and sugar sweet riffs, it’s fizzes and crackles with a rare energy.

Flipside ‘Park The Car’ though, is somewhat different. Incorporating a post-punk flourish, there’s a sense of rugged nature, of wide open space here alongside that itchy, Foals inspired funk. Hell, the breakdown even sounds like Simple Minds – who were capable of crafting the odd cracker of a tune before those mullets became draped in self-righteous fervour.

Big Music, then. Listen to it now.
