Track Of The Day 5/9 – Klara Keller

'Lucky Luke'

Klara Keller grew up around music. Soaking up her parents’ Bob Dylan and Tom Waits records, her childhood was soundtracked by a raft of classic songwriting.

Filtering down in her sub-conscious, Klara Keller began to re-assemble those influences in her own guise, and the parts clicked into place with remarkable ease. Acclaimed followed, with the songwriter’s initial Swedish work – dulcet Americana, pop-tinged acoustic balladry – scooping awards left, right, and centre.

New mini-album ‘Bang’ is her English language crossover moment, propelled by emphatic recent single ‘Sad Thinking Of You’. Moving ever-forwards, Klara Keller has just shared follow up single ‘Lucky Luke’, and it’s a terrifically mature, nuanced gift to fans.

The title refers to those French cowboy comic books, and plays with this imagery to find something personal. A song about memory, place, and moving forwards, ‘Lucky Luke’ has a deftness of touch that truly lingers.

Klara explains, ‘Lucky Luke’ is “about a cowboy in Paris who gave me a blue watch with a little Lucky Luke on it. We were at a party in a pink house where he lived and everyone wore funny hats.”

“When I wrote the song I was in a period where I experimented a lot with different sounds and styles. But in contrast to that I also wanted to write a simple, yet powerful, song for the record. I started the production with vocals and guitar. Then I found the odd little synth melody to put right before the chorus that I personally think makes the whole song, but also that the drums that come in after one minute.”

Draped in a beautiful sense of freshness, ‘Lucky Luke’ is a dose of honey for the ears, a refreshing glimpse of Klara Keller’s talents.

Tune in now.
