Track Of The Day 5/7 – Humour

'yeah, mud!'

Clash has always had a soft spot for Glasgow. After all, we’re a title with deep Scottish roots, and we’re not shy about representing those.

Glasgow is never short of a decent band or two, the city’s multitude of DIY networks continually focussed towards innovation. It is perhaps this air of competition that gives the city its peculiar electricity – constantly leaning towards excellence, and a desire to stand out from the pack.

Humour are new to us, and debut single ‘yeah, mud!’ certainly stands out from the pack. Helter-skelter post-punk with a deeply alternative take on what constitutes a ‘pop’ melody, it’s a seethingly intelligent slice of guitar music.

Birthed across endless lockdown sessions – Humour live together in a shared Glasgow flat – ‘yeah, mud!’ has a surreal touch to it, one that leaves a permanent stain.

Humour comment…

This song was one that just came to us. I think it came together in less than an hour and everything just seemed to fit first time. A lot of the lyrics are inspired by an old book Andreas read. In this book a soldier realises he’s about to die and writes his mother a note. I think it’s interesting to think about what you might have to say if you realised you were going to die in a few minutes, and what you’d then say to your mother. Lots of pressure to come up with something important.”
