Track Of The Day 30/4 – Eliza Shaddad

Waters

It's in her blood. Eliza Shaddad comes from Sudanese and Scottish parentage, fuelled by a long line of artists, poets and non-comformists stretching back across generations.

So in way, we should come to expect the unexpected from this London based newcomer. Already gaining success as a vocalist with Clean Bandit, Eliza Shaddad is now set to focus on her solo career.

Debut EP 'Waters' drops on June 9th, and it's a curious introduction. Sure, the textures and sounds are rooted in folk but the tense delivery, the jagged material means that Shaddad really fits into a space of her own.

The title cut is a case in point. Meditative fare, Eliza Shadded's taut delivery recalls Nina Simone in its quiet, simmering ferocity.
