A New Year is a time for new possibilities.
House dominated 2013, with the sound extending its tendrils into the charts. However as the year drew to a close fans began to complain that the definition of house they were being presented – white, straight, overwhelmingly male – was too narrow, too dry.
Which is where Munk comes in. Mathias Modica – to give him his real name – maintains a Futurist stance in the house universe, applying new elements and welcoming fresh influences.
Moving in a jazz-tinged, loose-limbed direction, Munk's recent James Murphy collaboration 'Kick Out The Chairs!' is set to be followed by a scorcher for the winter months.
'The Beat' harks back to the roots of the house sound, which looking ahead to where it could go next. Mona Lazette sits in on vocals, adding something pure, emotive and deeply affecting.
Out on Gomma Records, remixes come courtesy of Kolombo and Social Disco Club. Kolombo's re-work has gained heavy club rotation, leading to a full video being commissioned – check it out below.
