These days, it seems that indie groups are ashamed of reaching towards the epic, of escaping their boundaries.
Flagship though, don't seem to have this fear. The American group recall the more bombastic moments of The National, or the more credible shreds of U2's catalogue.
Working with Ben Allen – known for his work with Animal Collective – the band's debut album seemed to fall into place with remarkable ease. "It's really satisfying as a produce Allen explains, "to hear the song sound complete and epic right when it's being recorded live, as opposed to having to edit, tweak and mix until it feels that way."
Cult heroes in the United States, Flagship's debut album is set to gain a full British release this year. Ahead of this, the band have pieced together a video for album highlight 'Life Underwater'.
All stabbing guitar lines, soaring vocals and a chorus big enough to fill the Grand Canyon, it comes back with gloriously vivid visuals.
