Track Of The Day 24/9 – Fossil Collective

The Water

There's something relaxing, something inherently spiritual about watching water (free-flowing, billowing) pass by.

Moving without constraints, passing over rock, boulder, obstacle, light shimmering off the surface as it leaps, jumps and hurls over anything in its path. It's the freedom which gets you – the ability to shift, shuffle, evolve with lightning splendour.

Fossil Collective are enchanted, too. The Leeds duo recently went back into the studio, recording the four tracks which comprise new EP 'The Water'.

Taking their inspiration from the natural world, the pair forego the pleasures of the city for the rewards of the countryside. "We're generally more connected with nature and the countryside than the city centre," they explained recently. "We like the simple life and the outdoors."

Keeping things simple is an apt motto for Fossil Collective. The pair's sharply defined, unfussy songwriting is both breezily complex and effortlessly easy to understand with their folk-hued, pastoral sound falling in droplets from the speaker.

Ahead of their new EP, Clash is delighted to be able to premiere the title track. A blissful, almost Impressionistic trip into nature, you can listen to it below.

Fossil Collective are set to release new EP 'The Water' on October 28th. (Pre-order link)
