Irish rising force Malaki simply cannot be contained. His 2021 EP ‘Don’t Forget To Take Your Medicine’ caused an absolute ruckus on its release, creating an immediate talking point with his hard-hitting songwriting.
Continually moving forwards, Malaki challenges himself at every turn. Opening a fresh chapter, Malaki digs into toxic masculinity, mental health, and the need to open up on scorching new single ‘Never Mind’.
A biting, ultra-raw return, ‘Never Mind’ recalls those Jamie T anthems, while the unrepentant word play sits in a similar lane to slowthai. It’s all completely true to his own experiences, a song that acts as “an ode to the lack of awareness and how we deflect our true feelings using those two words. It’s about how we turn a blind eye and refuse help until it’s reached its breaking point and by then it’s nearly too late…”
Out now, ‘Never Mind’ punches hard, its impact amplified by the emotional urgent in Malaki’s performance. We’re able to share the Irish artist’s new video in full, and it pin-points the message that lies behind his songwriting.
“The aim for this music video was to tell a story,” he comments. “I decided to direct it along with Niamh Bryson as I wanted to be as hands on as possible. I felt the fast tempo and upbeat instrumental left space for the listener to ponder the true meaning behind the lyrics.”
“I wanted the song to speak for itself when performing it live, but when it came to visuals I wanted the character to be portrayed how I see it being told within the lyrics. I’ve always enjoyed conceptual based music videos and I felt this track had plenty of room to create a character and a story around this individual.
