Even as a child, grentperez became used to disappearing into internal spaces. Drawn to music from a young age, he built parallel worlds on his computer, drawing together fresh realms and evocative melodies.
Somehow, this habit never left him. The 21-year-old Australian artist-producer drifted across the globe, settling in London. Crafting bedroom pop vignettes, early singles such as ‘Cherry Wine’ led to his outstanding 2022 project ‘Conversations With The Moon’.
New song ‘Us Without Me’ takes another step forwards. Confident and assured, there’s a gleaming originality to grentperez, an artist who seems to view the pop song from an askew angle.
Blessed with an innate grasp of melody, the song blends this in bittersweet fashion with a lyric about break-ups, and learning to move on. He comments…
“This song takes on the perspective of a person who’s lost their love to someone else. Heartbroken and forced to observe this newly formed couple, the main character wallows in the imagination of what could’ve been. ‘Us Without Me’ makes you stare out the window and into your own thoughts.”
