Track Of The Day 18/11 – Aby Coulibaly

Don’t look now but Ireland might be our new favourite R&B hub. A flurry of fantastic artists from both sides of the borders are re-tooling soulful songwriting tropes from fresh vantage points, with Aby Coulibaly leading the way.

A majestic vocalist, she broke out in 2020 with her excellent debut single ‘Taurus’, which developed a deep connection with fans. A series of singles last year broadened her approach, with the chilled ‘Chamomile Tea’ and ‘On My Ones’ displaying her lyrical prowess.

New single ‘Weekdays’ is out now, a co-release between her Chamomile Club collective and AMF Records. The vocal, as ever, is sumptuous, with each note draped in feeling – lyrically, Aby discusses that feeling of falling crazy in love, to the extent that you almost lose yourself in the relationship.

There’s a playful edge, however, and the almost cartoonish imagery blends perfectly with Aby Coulibaly’s affecting vocal. She comments…

“’Weekdays’ is about being so crazy about someone that you’re finding it hard to hold back your feelings. I’ve always been someone that gives my all or nothing to relationships so this song is a playful exaggerated expression of that.”

Tune in now.
