Track Of The Day 17/12 – Farao

Walking In The Air

It may be smothered in schmaltz and sold at a mark up rate, but there's still something magical about Christmas.

It's a time to get back in touch with your inner child, to re-discover some of the hopes and dreams which daily life has managed to shuttle off to one side.

Raised in Oslo, Farao has been based in London for the past two years. Pairing up with Tunng's Mike Lindsay for sessions on her new EP, the two vanished into the Icelandic depths.

So it's perhaps unsurprising that Farao has subsequently recorded a solo Christmas classic in her native Norway. Close to the Arctic circle, Farao was able to dust off the familiarity surrounding 'Walking In The Air' and smother it with Yule-time magic.

A sparse, fragile rendition, Farao is accompanied by little more than an acoustic guitar. Tracing out those well worn lyrics, the singer seems to tap into the magical heart of the song – a track which has a place in all of our childhoods.

Listen to it now.

Farao is set to play the Waiting Room in Stoke Newington February 25th, following her sell out debut London show at the Shacklewell Arms last month – ticket link.
