Track Of The Day 17/1 – CMAT

It’s all change for CMAT. With Mercury leaving retrograde and the New Year dawning it’s time for one of those ‘new year, new CMAT’ scenarios.

With debut album ‘If My Wife New I’d Be Dead’ showcasing her epic pop pen, the Irish songwriter thrusts herself into pastures new on latest single ‘Mayday’. Out now, it’s a perfectly weighted return, with CMAT’s acerbic lyricism blending effortlessly with her emotional punch.

The songwriter dubs it “a very sexy song about climate change” – she’s got a boyfriend, and the world is ending…

CMAT comments:

“I found the inspiration for the song last summer. My boyfriend was on tour and flying into a country that was at the time being evacuated for forest fires. I was so anxious, I kept asking for him to text me when he landed.”

“Eventually he did, like: ‘hey! The runway is on fire’. I thought the human anxieties of the oncoming climate change disaster are something that are either not spoken about, or spoken about in big, sweeping, dramatic statements. I wanted to bring it back down to something pretty mundane and quite funny. Like the musical equivalent of a Coronation Street episode about fracking…”

Out now, ‘Mayday’ is a deliciously wicked return, a sure-fire sign of CMAT’s blossoming ambitions, one that demonstrates her uncanny ability to speak to her audience.

Tune in now.
