After almost twenty years in the game, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead have gathered a few friends in high places.
Opting to focus on a side project, the band's Autry Fulbright (accompanied by Jason Reece) was able to call in some favours. Midnight Masses formed quickly, swapped relentless twin-drumming post-hardcore for equally relentless, single-drumming spaced out psych.
Determined to break on through to the other side, Midnight Masses apply themselves with rare intensity. This isn't some chill out retro trip, with the band's material thus far feeling akin to a lengthy trip across the desert, with the bleached sun warping your consciousness in the process.
Debut album 'Departures' arrives on July 21st, with confirmed guests featuring (deep breath) Haley Dekle (Dirty Projectors), Isaiah “Ikey” Owens (The Mars Volta), Peter Hale (Here We Go Magic), Ian Longwell (Santigold), Jaleel Bunton (TV On The Radio), Mauro Refosco (Atoms For Peace) and Jamie Miller (…Trail of Dead).
Ahead of this, Clash is able to premiere new cut 'Am I A Nomad?'. Shrouded in Krautrock textures and kinetic drumming, the track was seemingly informed by the incredible pace of life on the road.
Autry Fulbright explains: "The album chronicles moments out of a whole "day", from sunrise to midnight. 'Am I A Nomad?' takes place mid-morning, and was written towards the end of an international tour. At the time I was reflecting on how life as a touring musician is a nomadic one; and how I often feel more comfortable on the road than stationary. It's a feeling I've had my whole life. I've never felt at home anywhere. I'm starting to think I feel most at home constantly traveling everywhere."
