Lucy Tun is fascinated by connection. The emerging multi-hyphenate wants her art to count, developing true communication between her and her listeners. Warped club tropes melded into alt-pop shapes, singles such as ‘Kulture Klub’ sent out a warning – under-estimate her at your peril.
With debut EP ‘Unreal’ fast approaching – it’s set to land on November 10th – she’s ready to share something new. Out now, her single ‘Airport Smoking Room’ is rooted in a liminal space, as transitory environment where bonds are loose.
A song about being “on your way to nowhere” it allows Lucy Tun to analyse connection, and how sometimes unspoken bonds can create a lasting impression. Partly inspired by 2004 film The Terminal, ‘Airport Smoking Room’ is fringed by a sense of loneliness, with the narrator waiting for someone to intrude upon this artificiality.
“You’re not saying a single word, but you’re sharing this experience together with overlapping stories – and I felt a sense of compassion because of that.”
