Track Of The Day 14/9 – THUS LOVE

'Repetitioner'

THUS LOVE are a world unto themselves. A trio based in Brattleboro, Vermont, every aspect of their sonic and visual output is completed on a DIY basis – right down to the studio they record in, built by hand from the ground up.

“I realise that most artists don’t live this way,” says Echo Mars. “But for us, it was never really a choice. The art we make is so tied to who we are and the community we’re a part of, that this is the only way we can possibly do it.”

The band’s debut album ‘Memorial’ is incoming on Captured Tracks, a testament to their independence, but also to the strength of their songwriting. THUS LOVE blend widescreen 80s pop – think the Associates, or The Blue Nile – with a kind of gritty, US-centric lo-fi aesthetic, resulting in something genuinely remarkable.

New single ‘Repetitioner’ is built around that storming guitar part, with the rich, refulgent vocal embodying a kind of old school Hollywood glamour.

THUS LOVE explain…

“‘Repetitioner’ is a recognition of patterns, a look at how habits are formed. We’re not always proud of our habits but sometimes there’s beauty in stepping back and recognising that these patterns make us who we are.”
