Track Of The Day 13/6 – hemlocke springs

'heavun'

hemlocke springs is your favourite artist’s favourite artist. Just look at those co-signs – Steve Lacy recently labelled her the year’s most exciting new act, while Grimes is also a fan.

The talent speaks for itself. The 24-year-old North Carolina breakout works with a punk-like sense of abandon, melding together pop melodies and left-field ideas, crafting engaging slices of Brutalist electronics in the process.

Set to play Lollapalooza later this Summer, each new song from hemlocke springs feels like an absolute anthem. Switching lanes once more, new single ‘heavun’ is a rejection of our money-oriented society, searching instead for a sense of genuine human connection.

On the surface, it’s a dazzling, neon-tinted piece of digitalism, but underneath this lies a beating heart. hemlocke springs calls it like she sees it, operating with a sense of unrelenting honesty in her work.

She comments…

“For a time, I thought if a person was money-motivated, they were greedy. But by that definition, everyone is greedy, so that’s a bit unfair. I don’t consider wanting to pay bills or go on occasional excursions as greedy actions. But what if I had an insatiable hunger for money? I wanted to explore the psychology of greediness.”

hemlocke springs makes her UK debut at London’s COLORS venue on November 9th.

Tune in now.
