Track Of The Day 12/9 – Deyaz

'Bitter'

Deyaz isn’t about to let his light be dimmed. An artist who pursues his own path, the multi-hyphenate’s natural skills took him to the Guildhall, a noted site of music academia in London.

Yet he couldn’t settle. Constantly seeking to exist outside the rules, he began crafting debut mixtape ‘WHY NOT’ on its own terms, with the title applying to the project’s central question: why not…?

Releasing to outstanding acclaim, singles such as ‘Bleed’ took control of the internet, with Deyaz making a stellar turn on Later… with Jools Holland.

Set to return with a flurry of UK shows, Deyaz plays London’s Courtyard venue on September 14th. Running alongside this, he’s just released a brand new song, with ‘Bitter’ finding the songwriter at his most open, and involved.

A brave discussion of addiction, the distorted sonics offset one of his purest, most soulful vocals to date. A hugely impactful song, ‘Bitter’ is “about the struggles I had with addiction,” he explains.

Deyaz continues: “As much as the subject is dark, I feel the song has a positive outlook as it shows acceptance within the problem and acknowledging the lifestyle that comes along with it can be harmful to your future. ‘Bitter’ really feels like the start of a new chapter for myself sonically and personally.”

Tune in now.
