Mnelia speaks from the heart. A fresh voice in UK R&B, the honesty of her approach helps the North West London artist connect. Her debut project ‘2:4’ remains much-cherished by fans, and the past 12 months have seen Mnelia update her story with a string of excellent singles.
New project ‘Closure Tapes’ is out on May 5th, and it follows last year’s ‘Closure’, and the excellent ‘White Lies’ ft Kwengface. A project she dubs her “own heartbreak bible”, Mnelia claims the studio became “the perfect safe space for me to explore all the many emotions that being a new mother, whilst simultaneously dealing with heartache, delivered to my front door.”
Lead single ‘Genesis’ opens this fresh chapter. Sculpted alongside long-term collaborators Gustav Landell and Albin Tengblad, it’s a divine piece of R&B, with its airy atmosphere pointing to Millennial greats while adding a 2k23 twist.
A song about self-belief, and how fragile it can be, ‘Genesis’ finds Mnelia once more speaking her truth. Rooted in that empathetic vocal, it’s about digging deep, and learning to move forwards.
She comments…
“’Genesis’ was made on a day where I was battling imposter syndrome. I wasn’t feeling the best in my creative space so decided to make a song which was essentially a prayer/affirmation.”
