There’s a purity to Unflirt’s music that can’t be faked. It’s raw autobiography, the work of someone who wants to channel her feelings, whether they be bright or dark, optimistic or somewhat bleaker. Music pours out of her – only 22 years old, she’s been picked to support beabadoobee on some massive European shows, and there’s a lot more to come.
West London based but with Filipino roots, Unflirt seems to exist in her own realm. Icy indie pop that feels crystalline, and delicate to the touch, her debut EP ‘Bitter Sweet’ lands on April 5th, trailed by emphatic recent singles ‘Out Of Time’ and ‘Before Dawn’.
New song ‘Anywhere’ is beautifully empathetic, with Unflirt aiming for a sense of connection. Fragile yet radiating inner strength, it’s about the risk, the sense of daring in revealing your feelings.
Lyrically, it deals with one of pop’s oldest tropes – the first rush of love – but from a distinct, wholly fresh angle. Driven forwards by that bittersweet vocal, Unflirt embodies a sense of yearning, a sense of hope. She comments…
“I wrote it when I started to fall in love with someone, and I really like how dreamy it is as it reminds me of exactly how I felt at that time. I hadn’t told that person that I loved them yet, so I think it’s a song that says that many times without saying it at all.”
