Uniqlo And Lemaire

The Japanese retailer taps the ex-Hermès designer.

Ex-Hermès, former Lacoste, founder at his eponymous label: Christophe Lemaire’s latest moniker falls to Uniqlo, with whom the French designer and creative partner Sarah-Linh Tran have collaborated on a new capsule collection.

First announced back in March – and arriving in stores not till October – the first four looks have just today been released, in a campaign lensed by Alastair McLellan. Comprised of 30 women’s pieces and 25 men’s, the debut images suggest soft fabrics and subtle hues.

“Uniqlo is defined by its LifeWear tag line – it is Made For All in the most literal sense,” offers the designer of his collaborator. “Uniqlo is daily, democratic and contemporary. The product is at the heart of the brand.”

“Our philosophy,” he continues of the pair’s union, “is close to Uniqlo’s. Uniqlo designs quality garments for every day life. Uniqlo is not trend-driven. Their philosophy is strong and modern.”

Lemaire and Tran join a long list of collaborators who’ve previously taken on the brand, from Coca-Cola and Jil Sander to Celia Birtwell and Pharrell Williams.

“Who you are, what you believe in, that’s what you wear. And that is what we make clothing for,” offers the retailer for its part. “Apparel that comes from our Japanese values of simplicity, quality, longevity.”
