Ahh the social networking site, we owe it so much.
Friend requests from psychos/perverts/people we thought we’d seen the last of a decade ago, wall posts depicting kittens/collapsed buildings/deformed genitalia and the chance to poke/vomit on/throw a sheep at your nearest and dearest.
All this and the magical ability to waste an entire working day before an evening spent with impaired vision due to the magical spots of light that remain on your retinas for up to six hours after finally logging off.
So, if you thought MySpace and Facebook were enough, prepare yourselves for showmehowtoplay.com. Now, not only can you be friends with your favourite band, you can actually play music with them. Showmehowtoplay has successfully brought time wasting to a whole new level.
Along with the usual music downloads, artist profiles and interviews the site boasts a unique four screen multiplayer, shot from three different camera angles, that allows users to learn to play music under the instruction of their favourite artist.
There will also be high quality live sessions in which the artist has a direct creative input and best of all the chance for fans to play alongside and in synch with the musicians. MySpace should be quaking in its boots.
Time to give something back to the fans
Showmehowtoplay.com is the brain child of producer Mark Flannerly, who has worked with some of the greatest acts of the last 20 years (Black Sabbath, Depeche Mode, U2) and some of the not so great (Def Leppard, Boy George, Lisa Stansfield, Fresh Prince) and he felt it was time to give something back to the fans.
Big names like Peter Hook and The Crave have signed up and there are new artists joining all the time so keep an eye on this site because it’s likely to be massive. Facebook was good but the chance to jam with Jack White has to beat pretending to be a virtual zombie any day. But remember, just because Graham Coxon taught you to play the guitar it doesn’t mean your best friends.
