Mute Launch Liberation Technologies

Dance oriented label unveiled

Mute have confirmed plans for a new electronic oriented imprint named Liberation Technologies.

One of Britain’s most celebration independent labels, Mute have never hid their love for electronic music. Now the organisation are set to launch a new sub-label, with Liberation Technologies due to open later this year.

Devoting itself to electronic music, Liberation Technologies will launch with a release from King Felix. Hailing from Ann Arbor, the moniker is apparently an alter ego for Laurel Halo – who previously released an EP called ‘King Felix’ on Hippos In Tanks.

The first release on the new imprint, ‘Spring EP’ will be available on download and vinyl from March 19th.

Details are still thin on the ground, but Liberation Technologies will apparently have a commitment to vinyl with each release carrying with it an inventive release method. Each design is said to be a statement in itself, with the label planning to launch a series of live activities later this year.

Patrick O’Neill will oversee the label’s growth, with previous credits including involvement with Actress, T++, Moritz Von Oswald, Joy Orbison, Darkstar and Zomby.

Finally, a quote from Mute founder Daniel Miller: “Electronic music is part of Mute’s DNA and history, and this label is the latest expression of that.”

King Felix will release ‘Spring EP’ on March 19th.
