Morrissey Addresses His Fans

Laments album, apologises for call offs

Legendary British songwriter Morrissey has released a statement to fans apologising for a recent album and a series of postponed tour dates.

Morrissey is one of the most unique figures in British music. Emerging as frontman with The Smiths the singer was a witty and literate alternative to chart fodder, gaining a devoted fan following.

Since then Morrissey has embarked on a solo career that has had plenty of ups and downs. This year alone the singer released his new album ‘Years Of Refusal’, battled label interference and dramatically collapsed onstage in Swindon.

Sending a statement to fans, the singer has given his side of the year’s events. Morrissey began by apologising for the recent B-sides collection ‘Swords’ which peaked outside of the Top 40.

“I am sorry that ‘Swords’ was such a meek disaster,” he wrote. “It was proposed and accepted as a budget-priced CD, yet emerged everywhere as the most expensive CD in the racks. It was poorly distributed and didn’t stand a chance, and ranks as the lowest chart position I’ve ever encountered.”

The singer then referred to a series of controversial shows. “Hope denied in Liverpool, and the physical limits were tipped in Swindon – these were life’s unfortunate lows,” he wrote of the dates. “I spent the night at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where the staff restored my faith in humanity. I had no idea such kindness existed.”

Unusually for a man with a reputation for misery, Morrissey finished on an upbeat note of defiance.

“What does the future hold?” he wondered. “What does the next minute hold? It all rests as ever on determination – that which springs from somewhere deeper than the body. Record label interest is zero, but the sun will creep back into the room one way or another. It always does.”
