Man Alive Introduces Himself With ‘Be Someone’

A new project from Kodaline's Mark Prendergast...

What do you do when the band you form gains more than a billion streams, and reaches the level of playing stadiums in your homeland? In the case of Kodaline’s Mark Prendergast… start all over again.

Man Alive is a new project from a familiar face. It finds the Irish artist wiping the slate clean, moving away from stadium bombast towards something more tender, more personal, and openly emotive. Citing Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers as key influences, he retains his nascent pop touch, the lyrics imbued with riveting emotion.

New single ‘Be Someone’ is the point of departure. A song about the vagaries of a relationship, and the aftermath of its implosion, Man Alive attempts to keep his feelings in check: “Was it a joke when you said you’d be mine?”

Curiously, his close friend Aisling Bea acted as a sounding board during sessions – someone entrusted to dole out hard truths, if it merited it. As a result, ‘Be Someone’ goes incredible close to the bone, with Man Alive hauling down his defences.

The songwriter comments…

“‘Be Someone’ is about a long-distance relationship falling apart, and how when you’re with somebody, they make you feel like a certain type of person, but then when you end the relationship and you’re by yourself, you always become a completely different person.”

Tune in now.
