Luke Haines Britpop War

Auteurs singer tears into comrades

Former Auteurs and Black Box Recorder mainman Luke Haines has tore into his contemporaries, launching a series of scathing attacks on Blur, Oasis, Radiohead and more in his new autobiography.

Serialised in British heavyweight newspaper The Times, forthcoming autobiography ‘Bad Vibes: Britpop And My Part In Its Downfall’ is a no holds barred look at the Britpop scene.

Haines slams Oasis as “mindless northern bluff” before claiming that rivals Blur are “a masterclass in media complicity”.

However the songwriter pouts the most venomous attacks on Radiohead, who he views as “that most heinous of creatures, a heavy rock outfit, fright-wig and all”. Good grief!

Even Kurt Cobain gets it in the neck, with Haines claiming that his suicide left the door open for the jolly knees up that was Britpop. The singer claims that “not only did Cobain kill himself, he went and left the bloody door open on his way out.”

Ouch!

Luke Haines’ autobiography ‘Bad Vibes: Britpop And My Part In Its Downfall’ is out now.
