John Lennon Album To Be Auctioned

Signed by Mark Chapman

A signed John Lennon album dedicated to Mark Chapman is set to be auctioned.

Mark Chapman’s obsession with John Lennon began in childhood. Years later, the crazed fan stopped the former Beatle outside the Dakota Building and asked for an autograph on his copy of ‘Double Fantasy’.

A few hours later John Lennon would return to the Dakota Building, and be shot to death by Mark Chapman.

Throwing aside his album and rushing to make his escape, the copy of ‘Double Fantasy’ was later found by a maintenance worker. Handed into the police as evidence, it now exists as a uniquely gruesome pop artefact.

Sold at auction in 1999, the album is now set to come up for sale once more. It seems that after receiving death threats the owner has decided to sell up, though their identity remains a secret.

Speaking to the New York Post autograph dealer Gary Zimet revealed a few more aspects of the album. “The album is the most extraordinary artefact in rock and roll history,” he explained. “It has Lennon’s signature on the cover and Chapman’s forensically enhanced finger prints on the sleeve.”

Continuing, Zimet reflected on the responsibilities that come with owning the album. “I originally sold it in 1999,” he said. “But it has come back up for sale. The current owner doesn’t want to be named because he received death threats.”

The price? A mere $850,000.

Mark Chapman launched an attempt to gain his parole earlier this year. Having served thirty years in prison, the killer able to apply for his freedom which has been strongly opposed by Yoko Ono.

Turned down by a parole board, Mark Chapman can apply once more in two years time.
