Jimi Hendrix Biopic Rumours

New film in the pipeline

A possible Jimi Hendrix biopic could be in development, according to Stateside reports.

Born in Seattle, Jimi Hendrix led a whirlwind life. After a few years on the so-called chitlin circuit with the likes of The Isley Brothers the guitar player set up residence in the Cafe Wha? in New York’s Greenwich Village.

Discovered by one time Animals bass player Chas Chandler the guitar player headed to England, where he found almost instant fame. Forming The Jimi Hendrix Experience the guitarist soon conquered the world with his stunning live shows and sensitive songwriting.

Three glorious albums followed, in which Hendrix stretched what could be done with the studio. Continually pushing boundaries, his legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969 has gone down as one of the era’s defining moments.

However the songwriter was to die tragically within a year of the performance, choking to death on his vomit in a London flat in 1970. Now it seems that this stunning artist could be the subject of a new biopic.

American magazine Variety reports that Legendary Pictures are attempting to shoot a new film based on the life of the singer. The company are working with the guitarist’s estate, although the agreement is not said to be official yet.

A previous attempt to shoot a Hendrix biopic in 2006 by Dragonslayer Films and John Hillman failed to be met with approval from Janie Hendrix who runs the late star’s estate. It was consequently prevented via a High Court injunction as it was claimed the film makers didn’t have the rights to use Hendrix’s likeness or image.

The life of Jimi Hendrix was immortalised back in the early 70s with the release of the ‘Experience’ film, which includes interviews with some of his closest friends.
