Dover Street Market: The Next Ten Years

The concept store's London branch celebrates a decade.

Under the progressive title ‘The Next Ten Years’, the original Dover Street Market this week begins a month of events, projects and installations celebrating the last ten years.

Opened a decade ago next Thursday, around the corner from the Royal College of Art, Rei Kawakubo’s infamous concept store has just undergone the re-design treatment, re-opening its doors today following a three-day closure; like the biannual Tachiagari but bigger and better.

The space will now welcome to the basement a NikeLab and the Good Design Shop (a collaboration between Comme des Garcons and D + Dept), the first outside of Japan and America, plus an extended Rose Bakery upstairs and four new artist designed fitting rooms.

As well as occupying the shop’s windows for the next fortnight – ahead of a Phoebe English SS15 preview – Louis Vuitton has been given first access to a large new event space on the first floor for the whole of the AW14 season; creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s first for the house.

Elsewhere DSM hooks up with designers such as Simone Rocha and Shaun Samson for unique special projects, while brands including Fred Perry, Vans and New Era have decorated their products with those three special letters.

Alongside such collaborative efforts, in-house souvenir style pieces will be available throughout the building in pop-up market stalls under the banner ‘Market Street Dover’.

All this and they’ve introduced the first official Instagram account, already boasting 7,315 followers to their 54 posts.

To the next ten years!
