David Sims Does Supreme

The skate brand is the subject of a new title.

That a skate label is about to put out its own coffee table photo book, shot by a photographer whose top Google search term is a Vogue mention, says a lot about the collective awe thrust upon such a brand.

Then again, since dropping campaigns that boast Kate Moss, Chloë Sevigny and Kermit the Frog as focal points, this much we already knew, huh?

Landing this week then, Supreme has hooked up with David Sims for an exclusive project that documents its team riders – Tyshawn Jones, Sage Elsesser, Sean Pablo and Aidan Mackey – resulting in a hardcover Instagram prop.

The pair’s collaboration is more than just a case of borrowed credentials: the same year that Supreme launched Sims picked up the Young Photographer of the Year award (for the first time) at the Hyères International Fashion and Photography Festival.

A contemporary of Corinne Day and Juergen Teller, his 90’s aesthetic similarly rejected the glamour previously imposed upon the fashion industry; this latest project, shot in New York both in the studio and on location, suggests lo-fi visuals, as per his more recent work.
