Hailing from one of the most inspired musical provinces on planet earth, Canadian dream-poppers Young Galaxy are yet another actually-really-good band to add to the 2007 list along with Besnard Lakes and Patrick Watson.
Part epic doom-pop, part cinematic pop bliss, ‘Young Galaxy’ sees the duo (made up of Stephen Ramsay : vocals/guitar and Catherine McCandless : vocals/keyboards) expand their dream pop stylings into a full debut. Within it, ‘Outside The City’ finds them reeling like fellow Canadians Arcade Fire if they’d listened to more Shoegaze compilations, where the sparse, looping haunt of ‘Suns Is Coming Up’ is better still; a dream-like, acid fried ballad. Don’t be surprised if somewhere in the murky backwaters of Quebec, an evil Dr. Schmindie is cloning these musicians, it’s the only explanation for their never-ending musical excellence!
