Will take residency within the heartstrings

Whilst most bands are busy crow-barring their way into the local Chemist window, Turin Brakes’ hits are more designed to take residency within the nearest of heartstrings.

Having penned some of the best bittersweet bedsit songs of the last decade (‘Painkiller’, ‘Underdog’), September sees them returning with ‘Dark On Fire’, an album of ever-increasing depth and occasionally darker corners than their days daubed within the now defunct New Acoustic Movement. Lead single ‘Stalker’ makes way for a distinctly bolder sound, all low-slung synth cackles and delay-laden guitars headed for Saturn. With production duties from Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon/Razorlight) giving the L.P added momentum, songs like ‘Something In My Eye’ and title track ‘Dark On Fire’ (a string-doused downbeat delight) give way to an autumn album worth waiting for.
