A contemplative, evocative journey...

Two albums in one year is a feat in itself and with the second, Tourist brings a distinct tonal shift to the last. 'Wild' takes us on a contemplative journey through an evocative selection of tracks, with each song seeming to act as a varied understanding of the human experience.

At least that is one possible interpretation, as of course an amalgamation of sounds holds ambiguity, one which Tourist is keen for us to explore. Electronic echoes and atmospheric vocal snippets reverberate throughout the record to create an expansive, ghostly impression.

'Wild' sits somewhere between Jamie xx and Bon Iver with its reminiscent elements of heavy synths and earthy base, bringing a solid ambient house feel. 'Elixir' is one of its most impressive features, with a euphoric soundscape of the extraterrestrial, creating textures which are captivating to the mind and ear.

It pulls listeners in two directions through the combination of high frequencies and deep bass lines, which in itself feels like the experience of outer space on Earth. It's as though he’s leading you to frequency of higher consciousness, in the least possible creepily cultish sense. Each song brings the remnants of last at the beginning of the next, which creates its synergistic quality; it could simply be listened to as one long progressive track.

The song 'Wild' is what brings the record to its height where it becomes its most techno in a disorientating triplet rhythm. It is an album which requires engagement and cannot be superficially liked as it is not there for instant gratification, which in the current state of todays music production is a bold decision.

There are no dramatic beat drops, rather there is growth, layering and intense melodic structure. For his third album it is an impressive show of creative composition with a confidence in himself that beats the rest.

7/10
