A communion with the sands
Tinariwen - Tassili

Formed in southern Algeria in the ’80s, Tinariwen are a Tuareg band of virtuoso musical rebels, who continue to champion the ever diminishing rights of exiled nomadic peoples. Dispensing with the electric guitars and female vocalists they’ve used previously, this is a stripped-down acoustic album jammed around camp-fires and recorded in a Saharan tent. West African and Berber traditions coalesce with contemporary blues to create affecting multi voiced harmonies and handclapped percussion. The symbiotic integration with collaborators TV On The Radio and Nels Cline of Wilco are seamless. The result is an album of intimacy, introspection and incredible beauty; a communion with the sands.
