Sensitive and articulate
The Welcome Wagon - Precious Remedies Against Satan’s Devices

The Reverend and Mrs Aiuto bequeath us their second helping of gospel-ised indie pop. The debut was more predominantly a folk record, whilst the sophomore has a good deal more commerciality about it, not only in the pop arena, but with a strong Americana influence. The religious overtone is a heavy one and over burdens the album as a contemporary venture. The musical structuring, however, is sensitive and articulate, almost barren at times, which rescues things to an extent. There’s also a wonderful stripped down rendition of The Cure’s ‘High’, serving to illustrate the duo’s capabilities in performance, without the need to praise the Lord!
