Here for the long haul

The Alabaman’s fourth LP shifts into driving folk-pop on opener ‘You’ll Be Mine’ and stays there on an album of elegant, radio-friendly heartbreak. Eleven years after their eponymously-titled debut, Allison and Catherine appear to have finally found their groove but only after a fateful intervention from Coldplay’s Guy Berryman. He invited them to record in London and provided the sonic palette for the sweeping melodies of ‘Love You More’ and the intricate harmonies of ‘It Will Not Be Forgotten’. And while end-of relationship heartache churns throughout ‘You & I’, there is enough twisted darkness to suggest these sisters are here for the long haul.
