Long before the hits and superstar production credits arrived, Alex Paterson and Youth created a dance music landmark with their label, WAU! Mr. Modo. Combining a punk aesthetic with the freedom afforded by cheap equipment (particularly the sampler), the stable welcomed all comers, from dubby explorers Sound Iration to acidic young remixers Orbital. Including two tracks by The Orb and Youth’s remix of Zoe’s ‘Sunshine On A Rainy Day’ demonstrates the influence the label would have beyond the chillout room.
