Toothpaste Kisses begins with the sound of a lighting match and retains an apt smoky flavour throughout the remainder of the song.
Delicate swing rhythms and a mildly insistent double bass provide an unexpected jazz club feel, while the sweet guitar lines and postman’s whistle are early morning beams of sunlight piercing the shadows of a dusty bar. Anyone familiar with their taut indie sound and often raucous live show, might need reassuring this isn’t another Maccabees, but in a world overrun with choppy guitar riffs, Toothpaste Kisses gentle style is a welcome surprise.
