David Bowie once called The Human League the “sound of the future”. But despite a few concessions to modern fads (autotuned vocals, a bit of acid bleepage) time has pretty much stood still on their sound. Not a bad thing; ‘Credo’ sounds like their eternal classic ‘Dare’ given a bit of digital spit and polish, and the gang have lost none of their knack for hooky pop. It wears thin over the course of an album, and an appreciation for Eighties synth-pop is a must, but for a band in their thirty-fourth year, the League are still on good form.
