The last thing you might expect from a studio session with Queens of the Stone Age producer Chris Goss is a glistening, upbeat pop song, but The Duke Spirit have emerged from their time in the California desert with a melodic spring in their step.
Sure the first single from their sophomore album has their familiar stomping rock elements but the ever-present undercurrent of soul is now bombastically washing over the gloom. The always-excellent voice of Liela Moss really sparkles on the chorus and with her on such form, they are well on their way to becoming a Goth Blondie.
