A distinct sense of menace
The Duke Spirit - Bruiser

After a well received debut in 2005, ‘Neptune’, three years later didn’t instil real progress. Pleasing to report then that on this third offering, the London quintet have raised their game, with something a whole lot more classy, salvaging them from the landfill indie chute. There’s a distinct sense of menace in the execution, driven by some threatening bass lines and delivered by Liela Moss’ spit and sawdust snarl. There are more refined moments too though, with the sensitive ‘De Lux’ and, in ‘Sweet Bitter Sweet’, the band have produced their finest moment to date. Best listen or they might just know where you live!
