Now and then you spot a fragment of diamond in amongst a sea of splintered glass – The Domino State’s debut album is such a precious specimen! It’s a grandiose affair, executed with confidence and commitment, with careering guitars, an imposing bass and swamping keyboards that bring a lush richness and depth. There are some tremendous melodies too and the vocal delivery somehow maintains joy amongst solemnity. A bold opening statement, it’s one of the best debuts to hit the streets this year and, if they can avoid the White Lies analogy, it might just register the success it deserves!
