The Deal sisters return with a long-awaited new album Mountain Battles due for release next month.
This first single indicates a continuation of the quietly upbeat sound of 2002’s Title TK with its gently picked guitars, soft drum shuffle and Kim’s ever-engaging plaintive voice. Only towards the end does the song build and a dim squall of feedback announces a brief distorted guitar solo. It lacks the fragility of Title TK’s best moments, which may be an indication that the sister’s supposedly drug-friendly lifestyle has ceased and We’re Gonna Rise captures a newfound contentment and maturity.
