The second single from The Breeders’ excellent Mountain Battles album is a brilliant two-minute slice of atmospheric rock.
As you might expect the song features a fabulous booming bass line alongside a measured beat and fuzzy vocal harmonies. “I love no one and no one loves me” sings Kim Deal so that it sounds like both a cry of despair and a sneer of triumph. It is remarkable how a band that have been going for more than a decade can come back and make a record that sounds like nothing else around yet be so vital and fresh.
